Fall is flying past, and along with the gusty winds and the blowing leaves there is finally a new thing in the air – opportunity.
I’ve made a few happy announcements on LinkedIn this past month, and it feels really good to be increasing my workload and joining an agency team. My calendar is filling up now, and the saving marathon for another vehicle purchase has begun. Progress is happening in my professional life, if not anywhere else.
This month so far hasn’t been terribly exciting as far as personal adventures go – I’ve been vibing on the frequencies of a new industry, new team, and creating a new workflow that fits into it all. This is pretty much the way my professional career has always revolved, and I’m enjoying the ride even though it’s definitely a challenge to be the new kid at my age and experience level. Even the awkwardness feels good, though, because it’s fresh and new and the future is mine to improve upon.
My favorite coffee shop in town (Wired Cafe) is finally re-opening on Friday after having to close and repair some fire damage. The company and the service are always delightful there, and I could have their quiche of the day just about every day. The community is going to show out this week, and I’m excited to see their smiling faces again.
On the other hand, the city came and took two big old-growth trees from the curb in front of our house last weekend and it really bummed me out. One of them was definitely unhealthy – but I believe it was because the other one was growing over it’s crown and was hogging the sunlight.
Either way, they took both and ground the stumps down to sawdust. It feels like we’re pulling up to a strangers house now, without the shady boughs and the thick trunks around our front walk. I suppose the change will give our flowerbeds more light next spring. Maybe a ray of hope still exists?
That’s my hope for all of us in the next four years – even though this terrible, mood-killing storm of a situation will definitely destroy some things that don’t need to be ruined… somehow maybe the aftermath will show us that the growing pains were worth it. Maybe we can all work just a little harder to make it be that way.
